Addicted to the Yes
She was addicted to the "Yes"
To the desire to fill the gap, patch the holes
To be the one people come to
She was addicted to the high of the "thank you" and the "atta girl"
To them counting on her
To them needing her
She was addicted to the busyness
To the "I'm booked" and the "I'll make it work"
To the filled days and filled mind
But she's learning to say no
To let go
To ease up on the control
She's giving grace where she used to get angry
She's holding her ground instead of giving in
She's strong enough to bend, but learning when to stand firmly
She doesn't need the high of being pulled a hundred directions anymore.
She's saving her "Yes" for the people and things who deserve it
And letting go of pleasing those who don't.
