Road Warrior

I drop him off at his truck some mornings, and help him pack his stuff from the pickup to the cab. I tell him I love him, get a hug and a kiss, and drive back home.

He'll start the engine, and she will roar to life. He'll check the tires, the fluids, all the lights and switches and thingamajigs, and once she's purring, he'll put her in gear and head out on the highway.

He'll get to the rancher's place, and load their calves. Entrusted with this most precious cargo, he'll travel hundreds of miles to deliver these people's livelihood. He will share the highway with impatient and ignorant motorists, and maneuver his way through construction and intersections with the patience of Job. He takes the job seriously, and has proven to be an important asset to his industry.

Meanwhile, I will be home, tending to kids and cattle and work like always. I'll be praying for clear roads, wisdom for him, and just waiting for him to walk through our front door once again.

To the truckers who leave their families behind, we are behind you all the way. We love you and we are grateful for every minute we get to steal you from the highway.

To everyone else on the highway, please remember that truck is carrying the most precious cargo and we hope you'll make choices that allow us to have its driver back home, alive and well, at the end of each run.

❤️Richelle
