Girls of Summer
She operates the swather, the baler, the tractor and rake.
She saddles up her young horse and puts the miles on her, riding the whole field looking for that one pair that was hiding while everyone else rides herd.
She bakes bread, meals, and snacks for the crew of people helping get the crop off the fields.
She entertains kids and babies and her elderly kin, who show up to her dinner table just to take part in the madness.
She manages the chaos of summer work with a full heart, a sunburn, and a ball cap.
Let's tip our hats to the girls of summer. To the ladies in the trenches of county fairs, harvest, haying season, pulling bulls, and meal prep, may you always know how much you are needed and appreciated.
